The Risen Christ in our midst is the “firstborn of the dead” (Col 1:18). Through the light of his Resurrection, St. Thomas parishioners can offer their hope and care for those who grieve the loss of a loved one.
Call a Priest First!
Parishioners are encouraged to call a parish priest first when a family member has died, even before the funeral director or cemetery manager. The priests can offer the consolation of the Church, and guidance on the Funeral Mass and burial in the sacred grounds of a cemetery. Visitations in the Church are welcome at St. Thomas. The Rectory staff can help you coordinate the Funeral readings, music and hospitality after the burial.
Parishioners can help the bereaved by:
-attending the Vigil, Funeral and Burial on behalf of the parish community
-praying for the deceased and their loved ones
-serving as ushers and Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion at Funerals
-preparing, coordinating and serving meals after the Funeral Mass and burial
-following up with bereaved family members, especially during the first year
If you are interested in taking a more active role in helping our bereaved parishioners, contact the Rectory.
